Founders

Falk Daum

After a banking apprenticeship Falk studied business administration at the University of Augsburg. In addition to his German University diploma he also holds a Master of Science in Financial Management and Electronic Commerce as well as a diploma of higher education from Heriot-Watt University Edinburgh.

Prior to Serafin, Falk led several M&A transactions as seller, buyer or consultant, among others, for Siemens AG. For more than ten years his focus was on mid-sized German companies.


Philipp Haindl

Philipp completed his studies at London School of Economics with a Master of Economic History. He started his career as Associate at KPMG in the audit department bevor moving on to corporate finance valuation services.

Before founding Serafin Philipp was active in business analysis and acquisitions for five years and was involved in numerous M&A transactions.


Dino Kitzinger

Dino completed his studies in management and economics at University of Chicago with a Master of Business Administration. Previous he completed a real estate management apprenticeship with highest honors from the State of Bavaria and graduated with honors from the University of Biberach with focus on real estate and business administration. He started his professional career in the field of transaction advisory within the auditing company Arthur Andersen. Before founding Serafin Group, he led numerous successful restructuring processes within the attorney and insolvency firm Metzeler van Betteray based in Düsseldorf and the Munich based private equity company Aurelius.

Managing Directors

Dr. Dominik Socher

After having finished a banking apprenticeship Dominik studied business administration at the Ludwig-Maximilian-University of Munich. Afterwards Dominik earned his doctoral degree in the field of valuation. He started his professional career in the corporate finance department within the auditing company KPMG. Subsequently Dominik joined Duff & Phelps and supported in building up the German operations in Munich.

Dominik has been employed at Serafin Group since 2011 and has played an integral part in the current successful development of the group. In this context he was amongst others responsible for numerous transactions. As of 2018, Dominik is responsible for equity investments and finance as managing director of Serafin Group.


Martin Pfletschinger

Martin graduated from Maastricht University with a Master of Science degree in International Business Studies. During his studies he spent a term at Stern School of Business, NYU. Martin started his career at a pan-European turnaround investor where he was involved in numerous M&A transactions. At Serafin Group, he was investment director in the transactions team and led acquisition projects in recent years.

As of 2018, Martin is responsible for equity investments as managing director of Serafin Group.


Kamil Grzelak

Kamil holds a B.Sc. in Business from ESB Reutlingen and Kelley School of Business, and an MBA from IESE Business School. Following his education Kamil started his professional career as management consultant at McKinsey & Company. During this time his work was mainly focused on strategy related topics in the processing industry. Subsequently he worked for several years in Corporate Strategy at BSH Home Appliances.

Starting at Serafin, Kamil’s main responsibility was the development of mid- and long-term strategies for the Serafin portfolio companies, while subsequently taking over the direct responsibility for various portfolio companies. As of 2018, he serves as managing director of Serafin Group and is responsible for group operations and HR.


Marco Pagacz

Marco holds a B.Sc. in Business from ESB Reutlingen and Kelley School of Business, and an MBA with distinction from INSEAD. He started his professional career as strategy consultant with Bain & Company in Munich and Hong Kong. Afterwards, he worked for the value creation team of KKR, a leading global investment firm, in London for several years.

At Serafin, Marco first was directly responsible for various portfolio companies, e.g. as managing director or board member. As of 2018, he serves as managing director of Serafin Group and is responsible for group operations.


Mario Herrmann

After a banking apprenticeship Mario studied law at the University of Passau. After passing the second state examination (2. Staatsexamen) in Lower Saxony he was admitted to the Bar Association in 2003.

Prior to Serafin, Mario advised as a lawyer buy-out funds, corporations and medium-sized companies on corporate transactions. For more than ten years his focus has been on mid-sized German companies. As of 2018, Mario is responsible as managing director of Serafin Group for the legal department.

Advisory Board

Prof. Dr. Bernd Gottschalk

Prof. Dr. Bernd Gottschalk studied economics at the Universities of Hamburg, Saarbrücken and Stanford California/USA. After finishing his dissertation he worked in various divisions of Daimler-Benz AG in Germany and abroad finally as ordinary Member of the Board of Management for the Commercial Vehicle Division worldwide. Furthermore, with more than ten years he was the longest acting President of the German Automotive Industry Association (VDA).

Today, Prof. Dr. Gottschalk is Managing Director of his own business consultancy, AutoValue GmbH, member in various supervisory and advisory boards as well as Honorary Professor at the University of Zwickau.


Wolfgang Ley

Following his apprenticeship as textile engineer Wolfgang Ley studied business economics. After working as purchasing manager and director of a retail company, Mr. Ley was business consultant for textile manufacturers in Germany and Canada. Parallel to this, he founded Canada’s first indoor tennis and squash centre chain. In 1978 he and his wife founded the luxury fashion company Escada, which they expanded to the world’s largest company for women’s fashion in subsequent years.

Wolfgang Ley has been awarded the Federal Cross of Merit first class. He is member of various advisory and supervisory boards and involved in numerous honorary activities, among others in the AIDS and Cancer Aid.


Prof. Dr. Heinrich von Pierer

Prof. Dr. Heinrich von Pierer studied law and economics in Erlangen and Nuremberg. Following his dissertation in law he began his career at Siemens AG where he eventually was chairman of the Board of Management for many years and subsequently chairman of the Supervisory Board. From 1993 to 2006 he headed German industry’s Asia-Pacific Committee and he was chairman of the Council for Innovation and Growth for Federal Chancellor Angela Merkel.

Prof. Dr. von Pierer is Honorary Professor at the Faculty of Law and Business Economics at the Friedrich-Alexander-University of Erlangen-Nuremberg and has been awarded the Great Federal Cross of Merit.


Dr. Stefan Ricardo Girschik

Dr. Stefan Ricardo Girschik studied engineering at the Technical University of Berlin and earned his doctoral degree at the department of technology management at the University of St. Gallen. After finishing his dissertation, he started his career as management assistant at Rehau Group in Switzerland and held various international leadership positions within the group. Since 2008 he is a member of the group executive board and in 2014 he was appointed deputy group CEO. In his role as deputy CEO he is responsible for strategy and digital transformation, research and development as well as procurement of the Rehau group.

Since 2015 he is chairman of the board of directors at Conica AG in Schaffhausen, a Serafin group company.


Dr. Alexander Granderath

Dr. Alexander Granderath studied Nuclear Physics at Univeristy of Cologne and started his professional career after his doctoral degree at EC Erdölchemie GmbH, a subsidiary of Bayer AG and BP. In his career, he held various leadership positions for corporate groups, e.g. as managing director of AEG NTG for General Electric and as Group Executive Dental and European Chairman of Danaher Corporation. Dr. Granderath helds a Master Black Belt in strategy development and various other lean management tools.

Dr. Alexander Granderath is chairman of the German part of the Danish ISS /S, an international building service provider.
